Why remove photo metadata?

Most cameras and phones save extra information inside each photo file. This is called EXIF data. It can include the date and time, the camera or phone model, the lens, and often GPS coordinates that show where the photo was taken.

Before you share a picture online, that information may reveal more than you intended. Removing it is a simple way to protect your home address, daily routine or device details.

How it works

The picture is redrawn in your browser and saved as a new file. A new file contains only the picture itself, so the old metadata is left behind. The original file on your device is not changed.

Questions

Will the photo look different?

PNG keeps every pixel the same. JPG and WebP are lossy, so a quality setting of 90 or higher keeps the change very small.

Can I check whether a photo has location data?

Many phones show the location in the photo's info screen. Remove the metadata and then check the new file to confirm it's gone.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The picture is processed in your browser and never leaves your device.
