How to crop a video

  1. Drop a video into the box, or click to choose one.
  2. Enter the top-left corner (X and Y) and the width and height of the area to keep, in pixels. The buttons set a centre square or the whole frame for you.
  3. Untick Keep the sound if you want a silent clip, such as a background loop.
  4. Press Crop and download. The cropped clip plays through once while it's recorded.

Common crops

  • Square for profile posts and grids. Use the centre square button, then nudge X or Y.
  • Vertical for phone stories. Make the height larger than the width.
  • Remove black bars by setting the crop to the area inside them.

Tips

  • Cropping removes pixels, so the result is smaller. It can't add detail back.
  • Check the preview before you export, and keep faces and text inside the frame.
