How to make a video smaller
- Drop a video into the box, or click to choose one.
- Choose a quality. Small file gives the smallest result, and High keeps the most detail.
- Choose a maximum width. A lower width reduces the file more than any other setting.
- Press Compress and download and wait while the video plays through once.
What affects file size
- Resolution has the biggest effect. Halving the width roughly quarters the number of pixels.
- Bitrate is how much data is used each second. Lower bitrates save space but can look blurry in fast action.
- Length matters too, so trim unwanted parts first with the trim tool.
Limits
Compression here re-records the video in your browser, so it can't be as efficient as a dedicated video encoder, and the result may be a different format from the original. It's best for making clips small enough to share.
